How to Safely Dispose of Your Disposables

Once that disposable vape starts ‘a flashin’, you’ll be on to the next one pretty quickly. But what happens to the poor, depleted vapes of the world? Do you haphazardly throw them in the trash? Why shouldn’t I throw away my disposable vapes?

Before we get into how to safely and properly dispose of your empties, you might still be wondering: why can’t I just toss them in the trash? Well, your disposable vape is essentially just a fancy battery. If it ends up in a landfill, the compounds in the battery will seep into the soil and water nearby, and that’s no fun for anyone. Not only does this pose a direct threat to wildlife, it has the potential to contaminate our own drinking water.  

How should I dispose of empty vapes?

1. Seal them off

Start by collecting your cashed vapes in a sealed container. When getting rid of old nicotine vapes, you need to use a bag or container specifically designated for hazardous waste. For THC disposables, it doesn’t need to be an official hazardous waste container, so something like a gallon-size Ziploc bag works just fine.  

2. Drop it off 

Now, all you have to do is find out where to take it to be properly disposed. This should only take a quick search to find a facility near you that deals with hazardous waste and other non-recyclable materials. Hint: it’s probably the same place you take your used batteries.

Search for the type of waste (lithium batteries for THC vapes, hazardous household waste for nicotine vapes) and enter your zip code to reveal a list of locations near you that will accept your empties. You might be surprised by some of the places that will dispose of these for you!

3. Keep it going

Just like you have containers for other types of recyclables, toss empty disposables in one place and designate a day of the month, or even quarter, to drop them off.
